World renowned adventurer and photographer John Beatty came to Plymouth to give an evening lecture on his life and extraordinary journeys told through stories and photography on behalf of Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team Plymouth.
Hosted by team partner and supporter Plymouth University, the delightful evening attracted nearly 100 guests. John recalled pioneering journeys starting in the 1970s taking place up to the current day, exploring all corners of the earth, from seasons spent in Antarctica, pioneering unsupported treks across the Greenland Icecap, and recent trips to Mongolia and the extraordinary Kumbh Mela in India.
John held the audience attention for nearly 2 hours before being thanked by DSRTP chairman Phil and then meeting the guests, and selling some of his fantastic books and diaries. DSRTP team members also were on hand selling their new local walk guidebook published in collaboration with the University, ‘Moor to Sea’.
All proceeds from ticket sales went to DSRTP funds, helping pay for much needed life-saving new rescue equipment. More than £1,000 was raised!
Our team thanks once again go to John for making the journey and taking the time to help us, and also to our Partners at Plymouth University for their ongoing support.
